Regional and local market pay in Wales: summary of evidence

This report contains evidence on regional public sector pay in Wales assembled by the Welsh Government’s Chief Economist.

It shows that the evidence submitted by HM Treasury to the Pay Review Bodies on the issue of regional and “local market pay” is only partial and the case made for introducing public sector pay that varies on a regional basis is flawed. It finds that Wales is not unlike many other UK regions and countries in terms of its relative public sector pay and that the introduction of regional pay would be most likely to have adverse effects on the low paid and on women.
