Rhodri Morgan, First Minister
The First Minister has announced the following list of responsibilities today.


Jane Hutt, Business Minister – will also be the Minister for Children, with responsibility for co-ordinating the Welsh Assembly Government’s actions in relation to children, but with no budget holding or functional responsibilities.  To chair the Cabinet Sub Committee on Children and Young People.

Brian Gibbons, Minister for Health and Social Services - to retain responsibility for children’s health, including the food and fitness programme, children’s social services and the regulatory functions in relation to children’s services discharged by CSIW.

Jane Davidson, Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning - to retain current responsibilities in relation to children and young people; to become responsible for Cymorth, including healthy schools, integrated children’s centres, play and child care, but not those aspects of regulation which fall to CSIW.  To assume ministerial responsibility for Welsh Assembly Government interface with the Children’s Commissioner.

Edwina Hart, Minister for Social Justice and Regeneration - to become responsible for the Welsh Assembly Government’s child anti-poverty strategy, including promotion of the Child Trust Fund in Wales; CAFCASS and contact centres.

Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development and Transport - to retain responsibility for transport issues in relation to children, including safer routes to school.

Alun Pugh, Minister for Culture, Welsh Language and Sport - to retain current responsibilities in relation to children, including the free swimming initiative.
