Rhodri Morgan, The First Minister.
Members will wish to be updated on progress in respect of the Welsh Assembly Government offices to be located at Llandudno Junction.

I am pleased to report that significant progress has been made over the last six months to develop the design and tender documentation leading to the selection of a Contractor and the award a construction contract

Following an OJEU advert on March this year, six companies were invited to tender for the provision of Office Accommodation at Llandudno Junction. The tender return date was scheduled for 14 July 2008.

Since then, two companies have confirmed that that they will not be submitting a tender. Subsequent to this, two other companies sought an extension of time recognising the complexity of the Scheme and the need to allow further time to develop the design in further detail and to price packages in sufficient detail to provide robust bids. This is very positive news.

The extension has been granted in order to maintain a good level of competition and to allow sufficient time for construction packages and risk to be priced properly on the basis that enhanced value for money might be achieved.

The revised tender date will now be 11 August. We therefore remain on target to award the contract by the end of this Summer and for the building to be ready for occupation in Summer 2010. Furthermore, we are fully committed to delivering the building and the benefits arising from its successful delivery.
