Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy & Transport
I am announcing my decision on the allocation of Transport Grant funds to local authorities for 2008-09 at 1.00 pm today.

I am providing £118.1 million to improve Wales’ transport infrastructure and to promote sustainable transport. The settlement includes over £76.9 million to develop the road and rail networks, as well as some £28 million to support integrated transport solutions such as bus-rail interchanges. I am also making a further £13.2 million available to promotes walking and cycling and the new Safer Routes in the Community initiative.

This settlement will enable local authorities to progress a wide range of projects, taking forward the Transport Grant programme and helping to implement integrated transport solutions as set out in "One Wales".
