Written - Swansea Children’s Social Services

In 2009, I made a series of Oral and Written Statements setting out my concerns about the provision of social services for children in the City and County of Swansea. You will know that I have established an Intervention Board to provide robust external challenge to the City and County of Swansea so that they could bring about the improvements needed in their services.

You will recall from my Plenary Statement of 24th March 2009 that I had asked CSSIW to inspect Swansea’s children’s social services in January 2010, or earlier if that became necessary.

I wanted you to be aware that the inspection has now commenced and I understand that the inspection report is scheduled to be published towards the end of March.

I shall of course consider that report carefully. You will appreciate it would be inappropriate for me to make any comment before then.
