Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Social Services

On 17 November 2009, I wrote about the appointment of the Chair of the Commission, Professor Geoffrey Pearson along with Julie Jones OBE and Rhian Huws Williams.

I am now pleased to announce the appointment of a fourth member of the Commission, Mr Phillip Robson.

Phillip is a qualified professional social worker who has held a number of practitioner roles in the former Gwent County Council and also in Powys. He has specialised in child protection and was an operational social worker for twelve years. In 2001, Phillip became the Director of Social Services for Powys and was then appointed Executive Director of People and Well Being in 2005. This post encompassed the role of Director of Social Services and Chief Education Officer.

I am confident that Phillips’ experience will offer an invaluable contribution to the Commissions’ deliberations.

The Commission has begun its work and will be asked to report to me by November 2010.
