What you can expect from our civil servants

We have made a number of commitments to the people of Wales and our own staff to help us to deliver efficient, accountable, sustainable government in Wales. This section outlines those commitments, our mission and our values, and explains how we practice them every day.

Our commitments

We have made 11 key commitments that guide our work including everything from equality and diversity to the Welsh language.

Our mission

As an organisation, we put the principles of sustainable development at our heart. In Wales, sustainable development means enhancing the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of people and communities, achieving a better quality of life for our own and future generations. These principles guide long term decisions we make that affect the communities people live in, the education and jobs they have access to, and the sort of society they grow up in.

Our values

Our values run throughout everything we do:

Delivering Results

This means focusing on making a real and positive difference to the wellbeing of people of Wales.

Valuing People

This means putting the interests of the people of Wales at the heart of everything we do, including equality and diversity. It also means valuing our employees, making sure they are properly equipped to do a good job and that they can reach their full potential at work.

Achieving Excellence

This means striving to produce the best work possible. In order to do this, we ensure that we have the right expertise, tools and technology in place.

Codes of conduct

We subscribe to the Welsh Government Civil Service Code. It is based on the code of practice for the whole UK Civil Service but reflects the particular circumstances in Wales.  It outlines how civil servants should conduct themselves at work highlighting the core values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality.
