In this section you can find out how we gather the information and evidence our expert policy professionals need to make policies and services that really meet the needs of people in Wales. Social Research

Our Social Research Division manages a large programme of social research each year. Their work helps us to understand the lives of people in Wales, the challenges they face and their aspirations. The team also helps us to improve how we run our organisation by surveying our staff each year. They ensure high professional social research standards are maintained across the Welsh Government.

You can find out more about our social research programme including survey results on our Social Research Division pages.

Economic research

Our Economic Research Programme primarily addresses economic development issues, but can also cover aspects of community regeneration, rural development, education and lifelong learning, the environment, planning and transport and the labour market aspects of health.

You can read more about our programme of economic research, including published results in the Economic Research pages

Statistics

We know that reliable statistics support decision-making, research and debate. Our statistics are used by a wide range of individuals and organisations in Wales to gain a better understanding of what is going on in our country. As civil servants, we use our statistics to inform the advice we give to Ministers and to shape the services we provide.

You can read more about our work in this field by visiting the Statistics section of our website.

Consultation

Consultations are formal exercises carried out to seek the views of people and organisations on things the Welsh Government is proposing to do. You can find out more about Consultations, including the ones we are currently running, on our Consultations pages.
