Value for money

The Welsh Government is committed to achieving best value for money in all our public services.
Our civil servants are fully committed to making the most of the Welsh pound. That means developing policies and delivering public services that demonstrate the best value for money. We also work to reduce the cost of running our organisation as much as we can.

Evaluating what we spend

Our finance systems help us to see the impact of what we spend against Ministerial priorities. They help us to measure what projects, schemes and services are effective and what needs to be changed to improve value for money.

Internal Regulation

Our internal audit service provides assurance to our Permanent Secretary and Director Generals that our risk management, corporate governance and internal control processes are robust and effective.

Driving efficiency in the way we work

In the current climate, our focus on driving efficiency and innovation is sharper than ever. In spring 2010, our Managing With Less initiative involved every member of our staff in finding ways that we can save money on the cost of running our organisation.  Over 800 ideas were received and many have now been put into practice. We are now turning our attention to how we can achieve greater efficiency and innovation in how we develop policies and services for Wales.

Driving efficiency in what we buy

Our central procurement department works constantly to help us to get greater value from our contracts. Value Wales also works with organisations across the public sector in Wales to streamline purchasing and make the most of our combined resources. We aim to be an exemplar.
