Social Responsibility

Our commitment to volunteering and fundraising for charities working in Wales is our way of giving something extra back to the communities we serve. These activities help us to develop new skills which we can use in our jobs, and help us learn more about some of the most important and difficult issues facing people and communities.

Volunteering

The Welsh Government supports all staff who choose to volunteer. From building fences on nature reserves to helping local schools redecorate their classrooms, all of the activities our volunteers undertake benefit the environment and our local communities. Staff can volunteer as individuals or as a group by organising a practical project as an alternative to a traditional development day or team day.

Charity Fundraising

In 2009 we launched the Charity Challenge. The Charity Challenge is our internal fundraising scheme which encourages our staff to raise money for our chosen Charities of the Year. The Charities of the Year are nominated and voted for by people who work here. So far, we have supported Mind Cymru, Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales and Mary’s Meals through our Charity Challenge. In 2010/11 we will be supporting Marie Curie and Life for African Mothers.

In addition to the Charity Challenge, individuals and teams at the Welsh Government fundraise for many different causes and charities close to their hearts throughout the year.
