The Board’s main job is to translate the strategic direction set by the Welsh Cabinet and its Committees into work that is joined up across our departments and makes the best use of our resources.

The Board is made up of 7 Directors General and 3 Non-executive Directors, and is chaired by our Permanent Secretary, Derek Jones.

Directors General and their areas of responsibility

Five of our Directors General focus directly on delivering the priorities of Welsh Ministers. That means developing policies and delivering public services that improve the wellbeing of people in Wales. Two Directors General help run our organisation including managing our finances and measuring performance as well as running the services that support our staff and all our accommodation.

Non-executive Directors

Our Non-executive Directors have varied backgrounds in government, business, education and the arts. Their role is to bring external experience and scrutiny and challenge to the work of the Board. Visit the Membership section to learn more about each of them.
