Consultation

A consultation on proposals for Health Protection Regulations in Wales

This consultation seeks your views on draft regulations designed to protect public health from infectious disease or contamination by chemicals or radiation.
Start of consultation: 04/11/2009
End of consultation: 13/01/2010

This consultation provides details on the proposals for regulations to be made under the amended Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984.  This continues the process of modernising health protection legislation in Wales.

The consultation is on three sets of regulations.

Health Protection (Notification) Regulations

Requirements for registered medical practitioners and laboratories testing human samples to report cases of infectious disease or contamination which present, or could present, significant harm to human health, to allow prompt investigation and response.

Health Protection (Part 2A Orders) Regulations

Safeguards to apply when a Justice of the Peace (JP) makes an order imposing restrictions or requirements on someone to protect public health, and reporting of applications for orders.

Health Protection (Local Authority Powers) Regulations

Standing powers and duties of local authorities relating to their health protection role, where the judicial oversight of a JP is not necessary.

We would prefer responses to be returned electronically by attaching the response form to an email.

Health Protection Regulations in Wales - Consultation report

The document provides a summary of the responses received to the consultation, and the action the Welsh Assembly Government now plans to take after considering those responses.

Subject to the National Assembly for Wales, it is planned that the regulations will come into force on 5 July 2010 (except certain provisions in the Notification Regulations which are planned to come into force on 1 October 2010).
