Consultation on the National Dementia Action Plan for Wales

This consultation seeks your views on the National Dementia Action Plan, developed by the task and finish group that was established by the Minister last year.
Start of consultation: 16/06/2009
End of consultation: 11/09/2009

Developing services for people suffering from dementia is a priority. According to the Alzheimer's Society, there are 37,000 people with dementia in Wales. This is set to rise by 35% over the next 20 years with one in three people over 65 expected to die with a form of dementia.

In recognition of the need to both improve care and plan for people with dementia, in October 2008 the Minister for Health and Social Services established a new Task and Finish Group to oversee the development of a National Dementia Plan for Wales. The Group was chaired by Ian Thomas, Director of the Alzheimer’s Society in Wales and brought together health professionals and experts.

The resultant consultation document, called the ‘National Dementia Action Plan for Wales’, takes the form of advice to the Welsh Assembly Government from the Task and Finish Group.

The written responses to the consultation and a list of respondents are attached below. The Welsh Assembly Government would like to thank all those who took part in this consultation.
