Legal power
Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) carries out its functions on behalf of Welsh Ministers.
- The Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003 gives powers to review the way in which local authorities discharge their social services functions.
- The Care Standards Act 2000, The Children Act 1989 (as amended), The Adoption and Children Act 2002 and the Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010 gives power to register and inspect establishments and agencies in Wales that provide social care.
We regulate social care and early years services using the regulations and national minimum standards made by the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Government. The regulations enable CSSIW to regulate the conduct of establishments and agencies in Wales.
