Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales Annual Report 2004 - 2005

This is our third Annual Report and it differs in a number of important ways from last year’s, reflecting its new statutory basis.

The range of services being regulated has expanded considerably since CSIW was established. Domiciliary care and adult placement schemes are the most recent services to be brought into regulation. There have also been significant changes to other regulations, including Under 8s services. This has been challenging, both for service providers and for CSIW.

Last year’s report announced that we were reviewing the way in which we regulate services. We will draw more on service users’ own experiences matching the intensity of our regulation to service users needs. Piloting these new approaches is under way. We have also developed more sophisticated joint working with fellow inspectorates, which will ensure that the full range of service user experience is taken into account while also  reducing any unnecessary regulatory burdens on providers.
