Training Support Programme for the Personal Social Services: Progress Report for 2002-2003
The overall aim of the programme is to improve both the quality of social service provision
for children and adults, and the management of those services. It does this by encouraging a more planned approach to training, and by increasing the take-up of training. The specific objective of the Training Support Programme is to increase the proportion of staff with appropriate qualifications, skills and knowledge for the work they do.
As a result of recommendations made by the Task and Finish Group on Workforce Issues in Social Care set up by Minister for Health and Social Services, the Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (SSIW) worked with key stakeholders during 2002-2003 to refocus the training support programme to better reflect the modernising agenda for social care in Wales. As a result, the TSP was renamed the Social Care Workforce Development Programme (SCWDP) to acknowledge the one sector one workforce approach promoted by the Task and Finish Group and to support the raising of standards in social care services however they are provided. This is therefore the last monitoring report of the grant in the TSP format.
This report focuses on the training activities undertaken by the 22 local authorities in Wales, which were supported by the programme during 2002-2003 It also reports on the investment made by local authorities during the period.
