Performance Evaluation of Vale of Glamorgan Council 2007

Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales

Performance Evaluation of Vale of Glamorgan Council 2007

This evaluation is based on evidence collated by CSSIW and material submitted by the authority.
The Joint Review reported in February 2007 that social services were mainly good and the Council was uncertainly placed to sustain and improve services. Information for the whole year 2006-7 indicates that assessment and care management services for children and adults are under great strain, with delays and bottlenecks for assessment. The quality of assessments across social services remains inconsistent. Case management and reviewing for the most vulnerable groups, such as children who need protection and children who are looked after is not consistent. The arrangements for protecting vulnerable adults have improved generally, though timely strategy meetings for the protection of adults in care homes have been subject to unacceptable delays on occasions. The arrangements for reviewing children on the child protection register have been unsatisfactory.
