Performance Evaluation of Torfaen County Borough Council 2007
The local authority provided wide-ranging and useful information in its self assessment. It should, in future, have confidence to be more analytical of those areas requiring improvement.
In February 2006 the report of a joint review of social services concluded that the Council had made great strides since the previous review; it provided mainly good services and was well placed to sustain and further improve services. In many aspects of provision the Council has continued to make available generally satisfactory or good services. The major exception to this is the continuing deterioration in its provision of care for elderly people requiring residential or nursing home placement on discharge from hospital. If uncorrected, this will threaten the reputation of the authority and will distort other priorities.
