Performance Evaluation of Pembrokeshire County Council 2006

Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales

Performance Evaluation of Pembrokeshire County Council 2006

This evaluation is based on evidence collated by CSSIW and material submitted by the authority.
There has been evidence of progress and improved performance this year in
children’s services and the authority continues to develop a wider range of
services for its elderly population.

Improvement in assessments needs to continue throughout the service and the full
implementation of UAP and ICS will present challenges. There has been
increased recognition of the need to protect vulnerable adults but there are still
some concerns about the quality of child protection.

Recent monitoring reports by WAO confirm that progress has been made in
scrutiny arrangements and there are improvements in the out of hours service.
Management information is becoming more widespread and reliable.
The authority continues to work creatively to encourage people to enter and
remain in its employment.

Much work has been undertaken in developing commissioning strategies across
the services and partnership working continues successfully. Support from elected members is visible and much valued by staff.
