Wales has been allocated £1.5 billion of European grant funding by the European Union for the programming period 2007-2013.  With match funding from a variety of public, private and voluntary sources the Structural Funds are worth over £3 billion to the Welsh economy.

During 2007-2013, Wales will benefit from the following ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and / or ESF (European Social Fund) programmes:

  • Convergence ERDF and ESF programmes in West Wales and the Valleys;
  • Regional Competitiveness and Employment ERDF and ESF programmes in East Wales; and
  • Ireland/Wales Territorial Co-operation ERDF programme

The new programmes are closely aligned with Welsh Government policies. They will focus activities that support the European Union’s Lisbon strategy and Gothenburg agenda of improving economic growth and providing additional jobs in Wales.
