Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010

The measure will make changes to the current legislative arrangements in respect of the assessment and treatment of people with mental health problems.
This Measure was introduced on 22 March 2010 by the Minister for Health and Social Services. It was passed by the National Assembly for Wales on 2 November 2010 and approved by Her Majesty in Council on 15 December 2010.

What is the purpose of the Measure?

The Measure will address issues relating to the assessment of mental health and the treatment of mental disorder.  It will establish a duty for Health Boards and Local Authorities to deliver local primary mental health support services across Wales.  It will create requirements around care and treatment planning for people receiving support from secondary mental health services and will ensure timely access to assessment for previous service users.  

The Measure will also extend the group of individuals who will be entitled to support from an Independent Mental Health Advocate.

The Measure will make a number of important changes to the current legislative arrangements in respect of the assessment and treatment of people with mental health problems.
