Referendum Legislation

The legislation necessary for the referendum specified the referendum date and referendum question and was approved by both Houses of Parliament and the Assembly.

On  9 September, the Secretary of State announced the question to be used in the Wales referendum.

On 21 September, the First Minister and Deputy First Minister proposed to the Secretary of State that the referendum should be held on 3 March 2011.

On 9 November 2010, the Assembly voted in favour of the motions to approve the Referendum and Schedule 7 (Amendment) Orders. All  Members voted in favour of each motion with no abstentions.

On 25 November, the draft referendum order was approved by both Houses of Parliament.
