Defying the economic downturn, Carpenter and Patterson, a family owned firm which has been based in Mid Wales for more than 50 years, doubled overall exports over the past 12 months to international clients in the oil, gas, petrochemical and power generation industries.
Major deals included contracts to supply equipment to the two largest new petrochemical refineries in the world - currently under construction in Saudi Arabia and India. The company is sending its engineers to India to oversee the installation of its products in the new refinery at Jamnanar.
Now, the company's newly formed Carpenter and Paterson Asia arm will provide a dedicated local service to clients in the region.
Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said:
Carpenter and Paterson's success is an object lesson in how excellence in product quality and service to customers is a route to success in even the most challenging fields. To supply key products to major projects around the world is an outstanding achievement - and I congratulate the company on the opening of its new office in Singapore.
Sales director Richard Macdonald said:
The time is right to be investing in this exciting part of the world. We will now be able to provide a comprehensive local technical support and a full sales service to our ever increasing list of customers in south East Asia.
Since the company was established in 1956, it has developed into one of the world's largest manufacturers of pipe support systems with an international track record of reliability and technical know-how. The company also has a wide experience of supplying components to plants located in harsh environmental conditions from the South East Asia and the Middle East regions to the extremely cold conditions encountered in parts of Russia and the Baltic States.
The company now has a client base of more than 5,000 customers and its Welshpool made products have reached most of the countries in the world.
