EBS investment to treble workforce

The investment by EBS Automation Ltd, which will see the workforce increase from sixteen to fifty over the next five years, is being supported by £113,000 from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund.

It is investing £250,000 in its facilities in Parc Dafen to increase capacity to meet rapidly expanding order books filled with a pipeline of projects worth around £3million.

It will enable EBS to expand their manufacturing unit and equipment, build a mezzanine floor to re-house the design teams, and install sophisticated new computer hardware and 3D CAD systems.

The increased capacity will not only enable the company to cater for growing orders from existing customers in the UK and Europe, but also emerging markets such as China, Russia and India.

On a visit to EBS today Business Minister Edwina Hart heard the company will take on sixteen highly skilled staff this financial year and enhance its apprentice development programme to include university graduates.

She said:

“It’s excellent news to hear of Welsh companies expanding, investing and creating jobs under challenging trading conditions, and I am pleased the Welsh Government is able to support these businesses realise their expansion plans.

“The Economic Growth Fund is proving to be a catalyst for growth, providing funding that businesses are currently unable to access through traditional routes, and enabling them to maximise business opportunities as they arise.”

Managing Director Mike Evans commented:

“We are seeing unprecedented demand for our bespoke robotic and automation systems, because manufacturing companies need to urgently increase their productivity and improve product quality.

“Yes this reduces some labour requirements for our customers, but we have found that our systems improve their profits and they take on many more staff as a result. It helps generate growth and long term employment by our customers. As an example, we are helping one of our customers repatriate component manufacture from China to Wales by automating their manufacturing processes.

“Our main market was the automotive sector but we broadened our focus during the recession and have targeted other industry sectors. We now have a strong pipeline of orders from a range of other sectors including pharmaceutical and electronics,” he explained.

“It is essential we increase our capacity to meet this demand, and support from the Economic Growth Fund has been vital to progress our expansion plans. It means EBS will become one of the largest specialist machine design and automation companies in Wales. We are delighted to have support from both Welsh Government and Finance Wales on this.”
