The expansion by FTS Hatswell Ltd, which operates from four sites on Deeside Industrial Estate, is being supported by £150,000 from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund.
The company has taken on a new 67,500sq ft warehouse with the capacity to store up to 12,000 pallets – almost double the number at its current premises, enabling the company to take on new business and increase its turnover.
The move is currently underway and the new base on Deeside Enterprise Zone will be fully operational by June.
Director Colin Broster said support from the Economic Growth Fund had been vital.
He added:
“In the current economic climate we would not have gone ahead with the project without this support. We had been toying with this expansion for some time but did not have the confidence given the difficult economic conditions and the fact that banks are not lending.
“Support from the Economic Growth Fund came at the right time – we had the plans and were ready to move immediately and meet the deadline. Prior to this we were unable to quote for any more contracts because we had no spare storage space – we had no extra capacity and could not grow the business.”
Business Minister Edwina Hart said FTS Hatswell is one of numerous companies around Wales that is benefiting from the Fund.
She added:
“I am pleased the Welsh Government is able to provide the financial support to businesses that want to grow and create jobs which is vital in stimulating the economy.
“The Fund is helping deliver our Programme for Government commitment to support high performing companies in all those parts of the economy that can create employment, wealth and a sustainable Wales.
“FTS Hatswell is just one example of a Welsh business that is now able to expand, win new business and create jobs.”
The company, which employs eighty people, runs a fleet of 55 vehicles and undertakes the storage and transportation of food and other materials across the UK and Europe, serving small local businesses as well as multinationals.
The expansion will not only increase efficiency but also reduce costs and their carbon footprint, reducing fleet mileage by over 1000 miles per week.
