Business Minister Edwina Hart has welcomed the announcement today (Monday November 12) that City law firm Lewis Silkin LLP is expanding its footprint within the UK and is to open an office in Cardiff to join its London and Oxford locations.

Lewis Silkin’s expansion and investment in Wales is supported by £160,000 business finance grant from the Welsh Government .

Lewis Silkin attended the ‘Legal Wales’ launch hosted by the Minister earlier this year at The Law Society’s Chancery Lane offices. The event promoted the Welsh Government’s growth strategy for the financial and professional services sector to a select audience of representatives from major City law firms.

The Minister said:

"I am delighted to welcome Lewis Silkin to Wales to join what is a rapidly growing sector of the Welsh economy. At the ‘Legal Wales’ launch in London I encouraged firms working in the legal profession to seriously consider Wales as the business location of choice for future expansion and investment.

"It is therefore excellent news that Lewis Silkin has done just that and chosen Cardiff for its expansion. They will, I am sure, benefit from the range of opportunities that Wales can offer law firms, including the fact that Cardiff has the UK’s only Enterprise Zone dedicated to financial and professional services."

The new office at Southgate House, Wood Street, Cardiff, is scheduled to open on Monday 19th November and will initially focus on supporting clients on issues related to employment law. It will be managed by a partner from the London employment team who will transfer to Cardiff. It is hoped that the office will grow to around 10 staff by the end of 2013.

Ian Jeffery, Managing Partner of Lewis Silkin LLP, commented:

"We are delighted to announce this expansion of our business. The opening of our third office in Cardiff will ensure the continued delivery of exceptional service and hands-on support in response to ever-changing client needs. After careful consideration, Cardiff was chosen due to the excellent legal talent available within the local market and a strong cultural fit with our firm.

"We are confident that our Cardiff office will be a seamless extension of our existing footprint within the UK, and greatly look forward to its progressive growth over the next few years."

Lewis Silkin LLP is a 60-partner commercial law firm based in London, Oxford and Cardiff. The firm has particular expertise in Media, Brands & Technology; Employment, Reward & Immigration; Corporate & Commercial; Real Estate & Regeneration; and Litigation & Dispute Resolution.
