A stellar field Olympic Gold medal cyclists Nicole Cooke and Geraint Thomas, Olympic Gold medal rower Tom James, Paralympic Gold medal swimmer David Roberts, undefeated boxing World Champion Joe Calzaghe and World Rugby Player of the Year Shane Williams are competing for the honour, which is voted for by the Welsh public.

Any one of these fantastic competitors would be a worthy winner of this honour and the standard of this field speaks volumes for what an amazing year it has been for Welsh sport.
I had the great honour to meet Nicole Cooke, Geraint Thomas, Tom James, David Roberts and nearly all our Olympians and Paralympians after watching their heroics in Beijing closely on TV, I saw Joe Calzaghe triumph over Roy Jones Jr in New York’s Madison Square Garden and I was lucky enough to see last weekend’s victory against the Australians in which Shane Williams scored, so I can say for certain that they all fully deserve to win the award. But I won’t be divulging who I’ll be voting for!
