The poster will be available to see at two sites at Cardiff Airport, Tredegar House Park and Ride, Llanwern Park and Ride and two Ad Vans in Cardiff and Newport. The poster is part of a wider marketing drive by the Welsh Assembly Government for Wales’ first Ryder Cup.
Heritage Minister, Alun Ffred Jones, said:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put our country firmly on the map and build on the work already undertaken in recent years to raise Wales’ international profile and to take advantage of every opportunity offered by the event to sell Wales to the world.”
Roger Pride, Director of Marketing for Visit Wales, said:
"Our aim has been to create a sense of occasion in Wales surrounding the Ryder Cup. Our First Ryder Cup is the campaign theme to celebrate Wales being the host nation of The 2010 Ryder Cup. The US team arriving on Monday marks the beginning of a very exciting time for Wales, we thought it would be fitting to give a welcome from Monty, who will be our honorary Welshman for the week.”
Golf Clubs right across Wales are also getting into the spirit of celebration with welcome packs being sent to 190 golf clubs, the packs include bunting, bar mats, Ryder Cup quiz sheets, menu ideas and table 'tent' cards carrying case studies of Ryder Cup local heroes, who are looking forward to their first Ryder Cup.
In another first for Wales, the two Severn River Crossings will also carry The Ryder Cup branding at the toll plazas with tee flags replacing the barriers with a welcome message. There will also be Ryder Cup and Wales branded flags flying above the toll plaza along the street lights to the old Severn River Crossing. This is the first time for the Severn River Crossings to be branded.
As part of the The Ryder Cup coverage on Sky Sports there will be a series of Wales 'Idents' at the beginning and end of the programme and the advert breaks. We took The Ryder Cup around Wales and filmed lots of people with the trophy. People can vote for their favourite one on Facebook.
