The blog has been created so that people across Wales and visitors can share their experiences of the Olympic Games in Wales starting with the Torch Relay, next Friday.
Welcoming the news, Sports Minister, Huw Lewis said,
“Wherever you are in the country, it is hard to ignore the sense of anticipation and excitement that is slowly building in the Welsh public, and so what better way to capture that buzz, than to invite people to share their inspiration and aspirations of the Games in this way. I know the First Minister was enthusiastic about getting involved and I hope that people involved across Wales join in and share their experiences of the Olympic spirit as it sweeps through the country.”
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are very nearly here and Wales is playing host to the first event of the entire Games, with the football competition kicking things off at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on July 25.
The Games will provide Wales with economic, sporting, cultural and social benefits and the Welsh Government is working hard to maximise these with our partners.
The blog will allow people to share their stories ‘in their own voice’ and will capture their involvement, insight and experiences of the Olympic Games in Wales.
Working with partners in local authorities, sports bodies and beyond the Welsh Government is inviting contributions from a wide range of people across Wales and visitors – including Torchbearers, athletes, trainers, people supporting the Games and participating in community events – who will have a unique perspective to share.
The blog has been created in Welsh and in English so that people can contribute in the language of their choice. The site is also linked to a brand new Flickr channel where Olympic images from the around the country will be shared. We are also encouraging people to use the hashtag #2012cymruwales when sharing their thoughts and experiences of the Olympics.
