The pack will help teachers and co-ordinators support learners by ensuring they are given every opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Speaking at the NACE Cymru conference in Cardiff today, the Minister paid tribute to work already being undertaken in meeting the needs of pupils who are more able and talented and outlined how the new pack, along with other measures, would continue to support both teachers and learners:
The Minister said:
“In 2008, the Welsh Government’s collaboration with NACE Cymru resulted in the publication of quality standards in education for more talented and able pupils – this document was distributed to all schools in Wales.
“Estyn’s 2011 report on More Able and Talented pupils in Primary School found that nearly all schools identified as having good provision for more able and talented learners used these standards.
“While we know that there are examples of good practice across Wales, we must now ensure that all schools are consistent in the way they support More Able and Talented pupils.
“Evidence shows that teaching and learning strategies that have a positive impact on the More Able and Talented improve standards for all pupils.
“I am grateful to NACE Cymru for their help in developing this new training pack. This will prove a valuable resource in ensuring the potential of our most able pupils is fully realised.”
