The Welsh Government Deputy Minister will again attend the Council, closely monitoring progress of the talks on reform of the Common Agriculture Policy, and presenting the strong views and needs of Welsh agriculture.
Travelling to Brussels as part of the UK Ministerial Team, along with Ministers from the UK and other Devolved Governments, Mr Davies and his counterparts will discuss issues surrounding CAP reform, in particular, the issue of greening.
Speaking ahead of the meeting the Deputy Minister said:
“The Common Agriculture Policy plays a vital part in maintaining the viability of Welsh farming. This is why I am committed to strongly representing the needs of Wales during the reform process to ensure we get the very best outcomes for our country.
“Negotiating CAP reform will inevitably be a long process requiring discussion on several levels, within Wales and the UK, and also on a Europe-wide scale. I will keep the conversations going both at home, and at the Agriculture and Fisheries Councils in Brussels and Luxembourg.
“I am heartened that the European Commissioner has publicly referred to the needs of Welsh farmers and am pleased to see that my participation at these meetings is clearly paying dividends. I will continue to play an active part in the process to ensure Wales eventually emerges with the best deal possible.”
