In the third year of the Young Entrants Support Scheme (YESS), interest remained strong and high quality applications soared.
The Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Alun Davies, said:
“The continued support for this scheme shows this Government’s determination to support youth entrepreneurship and show strong leadership for our farmers in changing times.
“The YESS is a fundamental part of Welsh Government farming policy and contributes greatly in the overall goal of standing up for Welsh farming and helping to secure a vibrant future for agriculture in our country.”
The YESS provides support for new entrants to farming under the age of 40 who are setting up as head of the holding for the first time, or who have set-up as head of holding within the previous year.
The assistance package available under the scheme includes:
- a one off grant payment for capital expenses incurred in setting-up as head of holding;
- access to a dedicated Young Entrants’ Business Enabler Service, for advice on training, knowledge transfer and joint venture opportunities; and
- access to funded mentoring services from established farmers.
