The Gregory Brothers Roadshow, run by twin brothers Adrian and Paul Gregory, visited St Andrews Infants School in Newport to teach children about the problems of litter, graffiti, fly-tipping, dog fouling and dropping chewing gum on the street. Using songs, games and mascots, Adrian and Paul also encouraged pupils to dispose of their rubbish properly and recycle as much as they can.
The Minister said:
"The Gregory Roadshow is an entertaining and informative initiative that raises awareness of important environmental issues. The show helps shape children's attitudes towards the environment at an early stage and encourages them to take pride in their local environment and look after it throughout their lives.
"I am committed to making Welsh communities sustainable and attractive places for people to live. I understand that Wales’s natural environment starts at our front doors – the condition of the pavements, vandalism and litter on the streets are all important concerns which affect our every day lives.
"That is why the Welsh Government provides funding to all Wales’s local authorities so they can invite roadshows such as this one to visit schools right across the country, teaching children the importance of looking after the environment in which they live."
The roadshow also provides each school with education resources so that they are able to create their own local environment quality awareness programmes and work towards improving their community.
