The Welsh Government have now launched their 2011-12 refurbishment grant and new sites grant, and are inviting applications.
The refurbishment grant is intended to improve the quality of life for Gypsy Traveller site residents by modernising existing facilities, and providing new facilities where needed.
Proposed areas of work could include, for example, drainage, plumbing, supply of essential amenities, fencing, roads and safety improvements.
The new sites grant aims to increase site provision throughout Wales. It is important that the application for the grant clearly demonstrates how the proposal fits in with the plans of the local authorities across Wales.
The Minister responsible for equalities, Jane Hutt, said:
“It is essential that we as a Government address the very real needs of the Gypsy and Traveller communities in Wales.
“The continuation of this scheme will make sure we are still improving the quality of life in helping upgrade accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers.”
The Welsh Government is committed to improving value for money and all bids will be subject to a rigorous assessment in relation to this.
