Wednesday 08 February 2012

Equalities Minister, Jane Hutt has today announced funding of up to £2,500 for 16 organisations holding celebration events on 8th March.

A total of £33,343 has been awarded throughout Wales.

Equality for all is an overarching theme throughout the Programme for Government, and providing grants such as these is a key commitment to promoting a fair and just society.

Speaking to the NHS and WLGA Equality Champions’ Conference the Minister said:

"I am pleased to announce the success of so many organisations in obtaining funding to support their events for International Women’s Day 2012.

"Around the world, International Women’s Day marks a celebration of the economic, social, cultural and political achievements of women and recognises the challenges and discrimination still faced by women today.

"The Welsh Government is committed to ensuring that every citizen in Wales has the opportunity to contribute to the social and economic life of Wales. We all want a society where people are valued as individuals, where there is diversity and equality and respect for all, and discrimination is eradicated in all its forms."
