First Minister Rhodri Morgan today [29 October] saw how the Welsh Assembly Government is helping a Mid Wales company to expand in the face of challenging, global economic conditions.

During a visit to Invertek Drives’ UK headquarters in Welshpool, which designs and manufactures variable speed electronic drives to control the speed of electric motors, the First Minster saw a new, 1,800 m² extension, worth £1.8 million, which has been built to accommodate the business’ sales, marketing and research and development functions. Invertek currently employs 70 people and plans to employ a further 50 staff over the next three years.

The First Minister said:

Despite the challenging global economic conditions which we are currently experiencing, I’m pleased to see that Invertek Drives is investing in the future in a positive manner. This new extension is proof that the company is investing in high technology and customer support. That is the right way to build up a niche market and resist the overall effects of the economic downturn.

Mr Charles Haspel, Operations Director of Invertek Drives said:

This visually impressive expansion adds not only a wow factor, but also world class status to our innovation and visitor facilities. It ensures that the company will continue to offer great products together with well trained, enlightened and committed international business partners, a strategy which has so far delivered 25% year on year growth for more than 10 years and annual exports in excess of 95%.

The UK will remain at the heart of an ambitious global growth plan that has already seen Invertek establish subsidiaries in Spain, the Czech Republic, Singapore and China. This success continues to create exciting, new opportunities for the market’s most talented people, with various roles in high tech engineering now being advertised at www.invertek.co.uk.

The company was established in 1998 and has been at its current location on the Offa’s Dyke Business Park since 2006.
