First Minister helps Wales celebrate its first Christmas as Fair Trade nation

The First Minister paid a visit to Fair do’s/ Siopa Teg in Canton, Cardiff, which stocks a wide variety of Fair Trade products, where he picked up some Fair Trade produce as gifts to give to family and friends.

The First Minister said:

This summer Wales became the world’s first Fair Trade nation, which means that there has been a significant increase in the availability and adoption of Fair Trade products within organisations, communities and businesses across Wales.  A good example is Mount Elgon Fair Trade coffee, grown in Uganda, by a producer co-operative supported by the Assembly Government via the Wales for Africa programme.

By buying Fair Trade products, you are paying the farmers and producers in developing countries a fair and stable price.  More than seven million people in Africa, Asia and Latin America now benefit from Fair Trade. So with more than 3,000 Fair Trade products available to buy, there is sure to be something for everyone to include in their Christmas shopping.
