The Recognising Achievement for Service to Wales reception, at the Swalec Stadium in Cardiff, acknowledged people who have:
- demonstrated innovation in joint integrated health and social care that is delivering lasting results;
- brought distinction to Wales on the local, national or international stage;
- given exceptional service, or made an exceptional achievement that has earned the respect of their peers and role models.
The First Minister was joined by the Minister for Health and Social Services, Lesley Griffiths.
The First Minister said:
“Wales is a small country but we are now recognised on both nationally and internationally in our own right and there is an increasing pride in being Welsh and a desire for Wales to recognise and celebrate the good things that happen here.
“The Welsh Government has established this scheme to do just that. The individuals who I have presented these awards to make me proud of Wales and the recognition they receive is richly deserved.
“In Wales, as in the rest of the UK, public services are facing challenging times and the health sector is no different. Those challenges are outlined in our five-year vision for the NHS, Together for Health, along with what we intend to do to ensure that the NHS in Wales continues to deliver a world class service.
“That means more of the innovative ideas for delivery which are being recognised today, more integrated services and greater quality of care. While the challenges will continue, it’s good that we can celebrate the successes that have already been achieved.”
