During a ceremony at the festival, he was honoured alongside Wynne Evans and John Hartson. Those entering the Gorsedd as an honorary druid wore blue for succeeding in the fields of law, science, sports, journalism, media, and local or national activities.
The First Minister said:
"This has been a truly special day for me and my family. It is a great honour to be called to the Gorsedd and be recognised alongside individuals who have achieved so much in their respective fields."
He also praised this year’s National Eisteddfod:
"The Vale of Glamorgan has welcomed the National Eisteddfod with open arms and I want to thank all those involved who have made it a reality. This festival is an important event for Wales as a crucial celebration of our culture and language."
The Welsh Government provided £506,400 of financial support for this year’s Eisteddfod.
