He chaired the 19th British-Irish Council summit at Cardiff Castle. The British-Irish Council was established under the Good Friday Agreement, which sets out the basis of the Northern Ireland peace process. Its purpose is to promote positive, practical relationships among the people of the islands and to provide a forum for consultation and co-operation.
Early years education, a policy area that the Welsh Government leads with the British-Irish Council, will also be discussed.
The First Minister said:
"I was pleased to welcome Ministers from across these Islands to discuss issues of common concern, from how we can grow our economies through to challenges we all face.
"This is the third time Wales has hosted the British-Irish Council and it remains an important forum for us to share our common experiences and discuss how we can work together."
The British-Irish Summit was held at St Fagans in November 2003 and the Swalec Stadium in February 2009.
