£2.5m improvements for Swansea’s hospitals

Health Minister Edwina Hart today approved £2.46million Welsh Assembly Government funding to upgrade and modernise wards in Morriston and Singleton Hospitals in Swansea.

It will  mean that the acute medical wards have easier access to facilities such as oxygen equipment.

It’s the second piece of good news for Swansea’s hospitals in the space of a week.  Today’s announcement follows the commencement of work which to redevelop the wider hospital site at Morriston, funded by £25million from the Assembly Government.

Edwina Hart said:

Some of Morriston Hospital’s buildings in particular date from the pre-war period and are no longer fit for purpose.

The care that staff provide at Morriston and Singleton is of the highest quality and this investment will mean that the wards where patients receive that care will meet those same high standards.

Win Griffiths, Chair of Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Trust, said:

We are delighted that Health Minister Edwina Hart has allocated nearly £2.5 million to improve the settings in which our patients receive treatment, and our staff provide it. We are confident that we will be able to provide first class ward facilities in which first class care can be provided for our patients.
