The statutory guidance – ‘In Safe Hands’ – has been updated following public consultation.
It clarifies the role of the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) in regulating care homes and reviewing local authority performance across Wales.
Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas, said:
"This updated guidance strengthens our commitment to protecting and safeguarding vulnerable adults and follows on from the guidance we issued in May regarding escalating concerns and the closure of care homes.
“We have also invested £100,000 to provide training for staff around dignity in care which will help to combat any poor practice and abuse.”
Jonathan Corbett, Acting Chief Inspector CSSIW, welcomed the new guidance and said:
"This guidance provides clarity on the role and responsibility of CSSIW in adult protection alongside that of other statutory agencies and partners.
“It covers the full range of duties of the integrated inspectorate which regulates both individual services such as care homes and reviews local authority performance across Wales. CSSIW is committed to working together with others to encourage quality services which promote and protect vulnerable adults."
