A consultation on the governance and financial management of Housing Associations is available for comment on the Welsh Assembly Government website.
The proposed standards could:
- Provide strategic shape and direction to the new self assessment arrangements for Housing Associations
- Improve accountability by letting all housing tenants/customers know what they should expect from their landlord
- Drive service improvement
- Help provide structure to any regulatory review by the Assembly
Ms Davies said:
“It is important that we look at the financial mechanisms that support our commitment to provide new affordable housing. I am determined to reach our target of creating 6,500 additional affordable homes in this Assembly term.
“The Welsh Assembly Government must work closely with the social housing sector to ensure that Housing Associations are able to perform to the maximum to help us reach this target.”
Similar standards already exist in Scotland and are being developed in England.
