Carl Sargeant drops in to Wrexham Women’s Aid

A One Stop Shop facility in Wrexham town centre which provides a range of support services for victims of domestic abuse has been visited by the Minister for Local Government and Communities Carl Sargeant.
Friday 02 March 2012

The centre run by Wrexham Women’s Aid has received £75,250 from the Welsh Government’s Domestic Abuse Capital Funding Programme to secure the tenure of the town centre location for seven years and ensure the sustainability of provision of specialist domestic abuse services in Wrexham.

Carl Sargeant said:

"The Welsh Government is determined to do all it can to help victims of domestic abuse and to ensure they are supported and can live safely within their local communities.  Wrexham Women’s Aid is providing a valuable service to victims of domestic abuse in Wrexham and the surrounding area.

"The funding from the Welsh Government is enabling Wrexham Women’s Aid to operate more effectively as a One Stop Shop, with increased space and resources for multi-agency working.  Once individuals are in touch with advisers, they can access a full range of support services all in one place.

"I hope our ongoing campaign, Live Fear Free, will continue to spread the message that domestic abuse is not acceptable and will not be tolerated and will give victims the confidence to come forward and seek help and support."
