Over £1.8m for Heads of the Valleys projects

Fourteen projects across all five Local Authorities in the Heads of the Valleys area have been awarded funding, which has been allocated as follows:

Caerphilly

• £250,000 for the Bargoed Plateau phase 2 development
• £65,000 for tourism infrastructure enhancements
• £65,000 for environmental enhancements

Rhondda Cynon Taff

• £365,000 for Aberdare Library improvements

Blaenau Gwent

• £25,000 for the Tredegar Townscape Heritage initiative
• £160,500 for Property Enhancement Grants
• £140,000 for environmental improvements

Torfaen

• £220,000 for the Pontypool Settlement Area
• £50,000 for the Forgotten Landscapes partnership at the Blaenavon World Heritage Site
• £70,000 for the Blaenavon Passport to World Heritage project.

Merthyr Tydfil

• £200,000 for the Cyfarthfa Leat and Tramway Restoration
• £150,000 for the redevelopment of the Castle Cinema
• £4,920 for the Pontmorlais Promenade
• £30,000 for the Cyfarthfa Castle Refurbishment and Enhancement

Announcing the funding the Minister said,

“I am delighted to announce funding for these fourteen projects. The variety of the projects both in terms of location and the nature of the projects shows the wide range of facilities and opportunities that the Heads of the Valleys has to offer and how are helping to regenerate the area.

“The Welsh Government’s new regeneration framework ‘Vibrant and Viable Places’ outlines how we need to transform underperforming places and ensure economic growth which is inclusive and sustainable. The projects we are funding will do just that, improving the appearance of the areas, providing opportunities for communities to come together and bringing new people into valleys towns.”
