The Minister heard from Commissioners that some progress had been made in supporting and enhancing the corporate capacity of the Council. These include the creation of a politically-balanced shadow executive and the appointment of Richard Parry Jones as the new Chief Executive.

However, there are still a small number of councillors who appear to have not yet made a commitment to focusing on the most pressing issues affecting the island - economic renewal and the delivery of public services.  It remains the responsibility of all members to support the recovery process so that the intervention can come to an end.

The Minister then met with Group Leaders, who expressed unanimous support for the approach the Commissioners have taken to moving the Council forward and reiterated their commitment to creating long-term political stability on the island.

Discussion also focused on the ongoing boundary review which the Minister commissioned in accordance with the Auditor General's recommendations. That review is part of improving democracy on Anglesey while retaining the Council's autonomy. The Boundary Commission have a duty to consult and so councillors and citizens will have ample opportunity to comment on the review before the Minister makes a final decision.
