The group was set up in 2004 by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide it with independent expert advice to help inform policies to improve the lives of older people in Wales and plan for the implications of an ageing society.
Wendy Bourton OBE, the chief executive of Care and Repair Cymru, was appointed chair of the Forum in January.
The Deputy Minister has appointed Lorraine Morgan, Terry Mills, Professor Vanessa Burholt, Cllr Arnold Woolley and Emlyn Lloyd as new members to the Forum and re-appointed Clive Owen, Hilda Smith, Susan Last, Robin Morrison, Tom Moran, Roy Orringe and Nancy Davies.
Gwenda Thomas said:
Wales is seen as a leader when it comes to older people’s issues and I want that reputation to continue. Wales, like the rest of the UK, is getting older and this is cause for celebration. But as we get older our needs change and it is therefore important that we plan effectively to meet future needs.
The Forum has an important role in the implementation of phase two of the Assembly Government’s Older People’s Strategy and will help ensure that our policies meet the needs of older people.
I am pleased with the new appointments and re-appointments to the Forum. They bring a wealth of experience to the Forum and will help inform the development of our strategy for the benefit of all older people in Wales today and in the future.
Wendy Bourton, Chair of the National Partnership Forum, added:
The Forum has been successful in attracting a broad range of talented individuals. Their knowledge and skills will assist in effectively discharging the Forum’s responsibilities. We are looking forward to working in partnership for the benefit of older people in Wales.
