£93,000 to support entrepreneurs in Blaenau Gwent

Social Justice Minister Carl Sargeant has announced over £93,000 to establish an Enterprise Facilitation project in Blaenau Gwent, providing support to local people with business ideas.
Friday 29 October 2010

The funding is part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s Communities First programme that aims to improve the opportunities and quality of life for people living in the most disadvantaged communities in Wales.

Blaenau Gwent has a rich industrial heritage, but the demise of the coal and steel industries has had a profound impact upon the community and resulted in high levels of unemployment. The Enterprise Facilitation project aims to boost the economy in Blaenau Gwent by encouraging entrepreneurialism.

The project will identify and support local talent and foster business ideas that are driven by passion, imagination and the hard work of local people. The creation of new businesses and self-employment ventures in Blaenau Gwent will generate new employment opportunities in the area.

The Minister said,

“I am pleased to provide funding for this project that will create new jobs in Blaenau Gwent and encourage local people with great business ideas to put their thoughts into action.

“This unique project will hopefully foster an entrepreneurial spirit within the community, giving local people the opportunity to achieve their ambitions by starting their own business.”
