Making room for a safer Vale

Wales’ Social Justice Minister Carl Sargeant has visited Safer Vale in Barry to see the crime prevention partnership’s newly refurbished premises at the town’s Fire Station.
Wednesday 26 January 2011

The Safer Vale Partnership works across the Vale of Glamorgan to prevent all forms of crime and disorder such as domestic abuse, substance misuse and hate crime. The Partnership also runs a number of youth programmes and operates projects that address the fear of crime to help local people feel safe in their home and community.

Thanks to their newly refurbished prevention room, Safer Vale help a number of organisations to run daily crime prevention workshops.

Carl Sargeant said:

"Crime in all its forms can severely blight a community so it’s important that organisations such as Safer Vale have the facilities they need to get to the root of the issues.

"The new prevention room is a great base for different groups to get together and look at ways to overcome the issues that affect them and their community. So far groups such as the local neighbourhood watch and pupil referral unit have taken advantage of the facilities and I hope many more will benefit from what’s on offer.

"The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to making all our neighbourhoods a safe place to live and runs a number of initiatives to tackle community safety issues. We support local Community Safety Partnerships across Wales and also implement the All Wales Youth Offending Strategy."
