The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) is the official measure of relative deprivation for small areas in Wales. WIMD was developed as a tool to identify and understand deprivation in Wales, so that funding, policy, and programmes can be effectively focussed on disadvantaged communities. The Child Index is the associated Index relating to children.
The Indexes rank Wales' most deprived areas. Using the most recent available data, WIMD and the Child Index identify which areas in Wales experience high concentrations of multiple types of deprivation, and how those rankings have changed since the last Indexes were published in 2008.
